Embodying the concept of abundance and prosperity, Tonuitanga Abundance is a striking sculptural work that explores the transformation of waste into spiritual wealth. Created by Ngāti Awa and Te Arawa artist Wendy Hannah, this piece from her "Taiao Taonga" series utilises reclaimed fishing nets and plastic bags, fused into a form that echoes the weight and significance of a heirloom pounamu.
The work’s rich, layered surface captures and refracts light, symbolising the wairua (spirit) within reclaimed materials. It serves as a stunning visual reminder of the potential for renewal and plenty in our world.
